Prop for Design & World Concept: Esferas Neckpiece
This prop was crafted from the stimuli of a 'queen' in Sophie's Design Studio practice. Sophie crafted the world 'Esferas', a four-tiered spherical world where women in the bottom sphere would wear neck pieces as a symbol of belonging. This neckpiece incorporated techniques of beading, macrame and resin casting.

A Room of Our Own 'Corridor' - Installation Design Concept
A Room of Our Own was crafted for Sophie's Independent Design Project. This room was the first of three and was designed to craft a sense of oppression and confinement. Participants crush down plaster cast hands as they walk down a long corridor with aggressive bronze cast hands suspended overhead. The names of victims of family and domestic violence and violence against women in Australia since 2012 are engraved into the walls.

A Room of Our Own - Installation Design Concept
A Room of Our Own was an installation design Sophie crafted for her Independent Design Project in 2020. This installation explores the worst and most positive spaces for women and how the power of words and our voices impact these environments. This room was the final room of three, designed to empower people to share their stories.

Costume Design Earthquakes in London
Costume Designs for Earthquakes in London. As tension builds in this world, questions are raised over the ethics, corruption, lifestyle, consumption, success and leadership of people and what it means to bring a child into a world that is being willingly destroyed by humans.
Sophie Davis
Production Designer
Sophie is a set and costume designer recently completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Design and Production) at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA). Sophie is determined, as an emerging artist, to find new ways of creating environmentally sustainable and ethical work - exploring the relationship and potential between creativity, science, diversity and its translation into physical space.
Her practice is multi-faceted with interest and experience also in scenic art, set/prop making and spatial and installation design. Sophie has held various notable roles across productions at the VCA including Costume Designer on Earthquakes in London (2021), Set Designer on pool (no water) (2020), Associate Set Designer on Snore (2019), Head Scenic Artist on Swim Between the Flags (2019) and Assistant Costume Maker on Body (2018).
Sophie was the recipient of the Cassidy Bequest Scholarship for Production in 2019 and is currently commencing Honours in Social Practice and Community Engagement.
